Safe and Sound Schools Welcomes Associate Director of Projects & Training
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Kate Shaw, who has joined the Safe and Sound team to further our mission of protecting every student and every school, every day.
Following a successful career as a public safety and violence prevention professional, most recently with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships (CP3), Kate joins our team to serve as Associate Director of Projects & Training. In this role, she will be leveraging her experience to develop behavioral threat assessment and management initiatives, support signature Safe and Sound programs such as the Averted School Violence Project and Bright Futures. Kate will also be focused on helping to expand training and grant opportunities for our community.

During her career in school safety and mental health, Kate led the development of district-wide threat assessment programs, oversaw thousands of complex cases, and built critical partnerships across schools, law enforcement, and community agencies to improve student safety and crisis response.

Kate holds a PhD in Psychology, Public Policy, and Law, as well as a master's in social work. She is a National Threat Evaluation and Reporting (NTER) Master Trainer and has served as a trusted trainer and consultant for hundreds of professionals across the country. She previously led threat assessment and crisis prevention efforts for Mansfield ISD and worked in law enforcement liaison role supporting mental health, emergency response, and school safety. Her work has shaped prevention practices across both educational and government sectors.
