As we continue through this joyous season marked by generosity and community spirit, I’m inspired by the way our Bright Futures Communities show up for students and families. Across the country, districts are demonstrating what it truly means to care for one another — meeting basic needs, creating connections, and ensuring every child feels supported and ready to succeed.
During this Season of Thanks and Giving, we celebrate the power of these connections and the communities who show up with heart for their students. Our community’s generosity fuels this work and helps build school communities where every child has what they need to thrive.
With so many meaningful examples of compassion and collaboration happening across our communities, I’m honored to highlight just a few of the Bright Futures Communities making a remarkable impact this month.
Bright Futures Berryville, AR
This month, service learning is on full display in Berryville. The Berryville Middle School Student Council took the lead in coordinating a district-wide food drive, supported through Bright Futures grant funding and homeless liaison resources. Their student-led effort ensures that every family who signed up will receive support. It’s a powerful reminder that when students are empowered to lead, the entire community benefits.

Bright Futures Marion, AR
Marion is kicking off December with their Need of the Month: Warm Coats for Students. Understanding how demanding this season can be for families, the community is coming together to make sure every child has when they need to stay warm this winter. New or gently used coats are being collected in person and online. This is kindness in action, wrapped around every student.

Bright Futures Holden, MO
Holden is keeping spirits bright with their festive initiative, “Ho Ho Ho Snacks to Go!” The community is collecting snacks to fill weekend food bags, ensuring students have what they need to stay nourished through the holidays and beyond.

Bright Futures Texarkana, AR
In Texarkana, Arkansas Middle School’s Gifted & Talented students led a Hygiene Drive. These students modeled leadership, empathy, and community engagement — all pillars of the Bright Futures mission. Their efforts ensure families have access to everyday essentials that make a meaningful difference.

If you’d like to support Safe and Sound Schools and our Bright Futures Communities, your impact can be doubled through Verkada’s matching campaign through the end of the year.
Every act of support makes a lasting difference. Together, we can ensure every child has a champion, and every school is at the heart of their community.
With gratitude,
Kim
