As we enter another back-to-school season, much of our attention naturally turns to readiness. We review emergency plans, practice drills, check our buildings and strengthen our security measures. We make sure teachers, staff, and students know what to do when something goes wrong. As we head back to school, I believe we have an opportunity to make connection a more intentional part of how we think about safety and prevention.

School safety is not a single initiative. It is not one program, one person, one department, or one solution. True school safety is built through layers of thoughtful planning, strong relationships, shared responsibility, and a commitment to understanding the unique needs of every school community.
