14 Years Later: Remembering the Joplin Tornado and Key Lessons Learned in Recovery
On May 22, 2011, an EF5 tornado struck our community, claiming 161 lives and causing unimaginable destruction. It was a day that split time into before and after. As Executive Director of Communication and Community Development for Joplin Schools, I stood with Superintendent Dr. C.J. Huff and many others, working to navigate a new reality defined by heartbreak, uncertainty, and profound grief.
