Safe and Sound Schools Proudly Welcomes Two Former Educators as Program Marketing and Special Events Managers
At Safe and Sound Schools, we know that keeping students and educators safe isn’t just about policies or plans. It’s about understanding the real experiences of the people in schools every day. From executive leadership to multidisciplinary team members, advisors and the broader Safe and Sound community, we are committed to ensuring that educators’ voices are central to our work.
Our founder and executive director, Michele Gay, began her career in schools, our Director of Programs and Curriculum Development, Ben Fernandez, spent 20+ years as a school psychologist and crisis prevention specialist. Additionally, survivors and advocates like former teacher Missy Dodds, and former Columbine principal Frank DeAngelis have shaped the meaning of our continued work to keep schools and students safe and sound.
Building on that foundation, we continue to bring educators into our staff and culture to ensure that all the tools, training, and resources we offer are practical, relevant, and effective.
We’re thrilled to share that Lindsay Durham has joined us as Program Marketing Manager and Madi Koenig as the Special Events Manager!
Having worked as a special education teacher with Teach for America, Lindsay led school-wide initiatives at Denver Public Schools and managed cross-functional compliance and grant acquisition. She joins our team to leverage her experience to develop program marketing strategies and strengthen community engagement.
"Lindsay’s firsthand knowledge of schools and educators’ needs will help bridge the gap between the amazing program curriculum we’re developing and the people who need it most. We cannot wait to build upon the community already using Safe and Sound programs and connect them with even more valuable resources in the future!" -Michele Gay
Madi Koenig, a former middle and high school math teacher, brings deep understanding of the classroom experience to her work in events, marketing, and community engagement. She will use this experience to enhance Safe and Sound’s events, foster connections with K–12 stakeholders, and elevate the impact of our programs nationally.
"Having educators like Madi on our team, with a natural knack for marketing and training opportunities, ensures that every event we plan is informed by real-world school experience. With the significant and exciting slate of events we have scheduled in 2026 and beyond, she will be a real game-changer for us!" -Michele Gay
By welcoming Lindsay and Madi, we are continuing a tradition at Safe and Sound Schools: building a team where educators’ insights drive our strategy, shape our offerings, and ultimately strengthen the safety and well-being of every student.
Thank you both for being part of the mission!
