Safe and Sound Schools Executive Director Addresses School Administrators and First Responders Delivers lessons learned in Oklahoma to help local school communities

Moore, Okla. – Feb. 4, 2015 – Safe and Sound Schools executive director and co-founder, Michele Gay, brought important safety lessons to school officials, first responders, and community members at the Moore Norman Technology Center on Feb. 4, 2015.

“As districts around the country are grappling with the challenge of keeping our schools safe, communities like Moore and Norman taking proactive measures,” said Michele Gay, executive director and co-founder of Safe and Sound Schools. “Opening up the discussion, involving the community at large, staying on top of new technologies and trends, and learning from other school-based tragedies are the first steps toward creating safer learning environments for our youth.”

Michele’s presentation is part of her ongoing efforts to educate communities about proactive school safety measures. As the parent of Josephine Grace, lost on Dec. 14, 2012, during the Sandy Hook school shooting in Newton, Conn., Michele is uniquely positioned to help school communities prevent more tragedies and better prepare and respond in the event of an emergency. Michele told her personal story but also left school administrators with important lessons about better planning, management, and recovery strategies to improve a community’s resiliency.

“Our goal is to help strengthen a community’s efforts to improve school safety,” said Michele Gay, “Bringing the first responders, school administrators, parents, teachers, and local law enforcement officers together, in one room, is an excellent place to start. We hope the conversation continues and more schools take the proactive first steps as we’ve seen in Moore.”
